Mid-autumn festival will come in one month but toy market for the season in Nha Trang has got busy. This year, locally-made toys are dominating the market instead of Chinese products like previous years.
. No increase in price
Mid-autumn toys are seen in many stationery stores as well as bookstores in streets like Le Thanh Ton, Thong Nhat, Nguyen Trai, Sinh Trung, Le Hong Phong…in the city.
“There are few new designs this year. Only some Vietnamese paper lanterns have some strange patterns such as lovely cartoon characters and animals”, a store owner named Nguyen Thi Be on Thong Nhat Street revealed.
Vietnamese lanterns are made of paper or colorful glazed paper with many shapes of animals, star and some others. Additionally, there are masks of superman, spiderman, the Earth God, monkey…Meanwhile, Chinese lanterns are made of plastic with colorful bulbs inside and can emit music.
Prices of mid-autumn toys this year see no increase over last year. A paper lantern is selling from VND5,000 to VND18,000; glazed paper lantern: VND25,000 – VND60,000; Chinese battery lantern: VND22,000 – VND70,000; unicorn head: VND40,000 – VND180,000; drum: VND40,000 – VND110,000.
. Be careful of poisonous products
It can be seen that Chinese lanterns no longer hold the main position in the market this year. They have been replaced by the locally-made ones. Most of stores and bookstores have put in fewer Chinese products than last year.
“Buyers now give much care about origin of products. They are very afraid of Chinese products. So, only 20% of the lanterns I’m selling are Chinese. The others are locally produced”, Nguyen Thi Be said.
At many stores in Nha Trang, Vietnamese paper lanterns are displayed on better places, overwhelming Chinese ones.
“Phuong Nam Bookstore doesn’t put in Chinese lanterns. We only put in Vietnamese paper lanterns. The most favorite product is Doraemon-shaped paper lantern. The Chinese lanterns here are last year’s stock”, said Nguyen Thanh Hung, director of the bookstore.
Accordingly sellers, the main reason for the decline of Chinese products is parents’ worry about poisonous substances in them.
“When buying toys for children, consumers should choose those with clear labels and price. Labels have to comprise following information: product’s name, producer or importer, ingredients, technical parameters, warning and uses. Don’t buy product without origin and CR stamp. The market management forces are inspecting this kind of products strictly”, said Nguyen Van An, an official of the provincial Market Managing Department.
