Accordingly, retail prices of vegetable also advance rapidly. For example, cabbage rises by VND1,000/kg to VND16,000/kg; carrot goes up by VND2,000/kg to VND15,000/kg and tomato increases by VND2,000/kg to VND12,000/kg.

Seafood price also soar for many reasons, including petroleum price. “Recent weather is favorable to fishery. However, oil price has risen to VND23,000/liter and petrol price has gone up to VND25,000/liter, which raise costs of catching, transport and preservation. As a result, seafood prices have increased by 2 – 5%”, said Duong Thi Thu, a trader at Dam Market said. Specifically, prawns are selling about VND360,000/kg, mackerel: VND185,000/kg…

Besides, many other products such as cooking oil, shampoo, milk and confectionery also up recently.

The price increase has put more burdens on low-income family, making them more difficult. Nguyen Thuy Chinh, living in Loc Tho Ward, Nha Trang, said, “I did shopping more before, but now, I do it once or twice a week to save petrol cost.”

According to the provincial Statistical Office, Consumer Price Index (CPI) of Khanh Hoa Province in July rose by 0.52% over that in June. The increase in petroleum price mainly accounts for the CPI rises of some product groups. CPI in August is forecast to keep rising due to some other reasons such as weather, demand and USD/VND exchange rate.
