Socioeconomic development program of ethnic minority and mountainous areas in Khanh Vinh District for the period of 2011 – 2015 has got some achievements but still met a lot of difficulties.
. Achievements
According to Khanh Vinh People’s Committee, the district has got remarkable results in 2011 and 2013. For instance, GDP per capita reached VND10.25 million, increasing by VND600,000 over 2011 and poor household rate in early 2013 decreased to 26.02%, 8.66% lower than 2012. In addition, policies to support the ethnic minority and mountainous areas have been developed comprehensively, encouraging production. However, the areas remain some difficulties in standards of the people, quality of the human resource, rate of poor households, effectiveness of education, medicine development and economic structure transfer, living standards of the people and some others.

In this period, the program focuses on propaganda, production development, poor household support, lending, housing support, electricity, water meter installation, etc.
Up to July, 2013, the whole district has opened14 propaganda training classes with more than 700 trainees, registered 70 models to develop production, supported VND5.6 billion for over 8,000 households with 37,000 people, lent VND4 billion to 796 households, built 117 houses worth over VND3.2 billion for ethnic minority people, invest 6 routes with 5 kilometers in length worth over VND7.4 billion to production sectors…
. Difficulties
In most communes of Khanh Vinh District, the difficulties are including slowness of financing, lack of clean water and mountainous terrains. For example, Khanh Hiep Commune has large production areas with 180 hectares of sugarcanes, 200 hectares of manioc, 96 hectares of corn, 97 hectares of fruit trees, etc.; however, roads to them are difficult for vehicles to transport products. In Khanh Trung, electricty hasn’t cover two hamlets of Ba That and Doi while Cau Ba Commune is deficient in water.
