Modern urban area to be built on former Nha Trang Airport

According to a project just adopted by Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, the area of former Nha Trang Airport is designed to become a modern and complex urban area called Nha Trang Urban Area – Commerce – Service – Finance – Tourism Center.

According to a project just adopted by Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, the area of former Nha Trang Airport is designed to become a modern and complex urban area called Nha Trang Urban Area – Commerce – Service – Finance – Tourism Center.

To form ideals for the planning, a design contest with a judgment of leading experts in planning and architecture in Vietnam has been organized. Design made by Vietnam Institute of Architecture, Urban and Rural Planning under Ministry of Construction and Britain-based Hyder Consulting has won the first prize. The planning is based on the prize-winning design in harmonious combination with strong points of other designs.

Accordingly, the large area of former Nha Trang Airport will be built as a complex of service, commerce, finance, tourism, culture and technical infrastructure.

The complex covers an area of more than 238 hectares, including 186 hectares for the urban area and nearly 52 hectares for the Air Force College.

The urban area will accommodate about 22,600 people. The project will be invested VND5,200 billion by Thanh Dong Real Estate Investment Joint Stock Company and 319 Corporation under the Ministry of Defence.

According to Vu Viet Hung from Vietnam Institute of Architecture, Urban and Rural Planning, the planning of Nha Trang Urban Area – Commerce – Service – Finance – Tourism Center not only complies with economic technical standards of Vietnam but consults some international ones. Therefore, land for housing construction makes up only 27.4%; public land: 74%, land for trees: 15% and land for traffic: 30.6% with an aim to build up a green urban area harmonious with the sea landscape and the existing residential areas around it as well as suitable with the long-term and sustainable development orientation.
