Continuous rains during the half past month have raised vegetable prices in Nha Trang sharply.
Many kinds of vegetable have made 5% - 20% increase in price. For example, spinach went up to VND7,000/bunch from VND5,000/bunch; mustard greens rose from VND4,000/bunch to VND6,000/bunch.
Vegetable from Da Lat such as tomato, potato, kohlrabi, cabbage, lettuce and cauliflower also saw a rise by VND2,000 - VND15,000/kg. "Due to the unfavorable weather, vegetable purchase price on farms has increased by 3% - 5%. After costs, vegetable price at markets in Khanh Hoa Province has risen by 5% - 30%", said a trader in Dam Market.
Specifically, cabbage has risen from VND10,000/kg to VND12,000/kg; cauliflower has gone up by VND5,000/each to VND15,000 - VND20,000/each; potato has increased by twice to VND28,000/kg. Lettuce, onion and some other kinds have soared by 50% in price.

Increasing in price but vegetable quality is not good due to the rains. Therefore, their sales are low.
Beside the bad weather, the end harvest accounts for the increase in prices of some spicy vegetable kinds such as dried onion, ginger, curcuma, jew's ear and shiitake mushroom. They have made 5% - 9% rise.
Some fruits such as apple, blue dragon, tangerine and watermelon also have risen by 2% - 3%. Sweet potato and pachyrrhizus also have gone up slightly.
According to the provincial Statistics Office, the rainy weather has influenced on vegetable price in specific and food in general. This is forecast to contribute to raising Consumer Price Index (CPI) of the whole province in October by 0.3% - 0.5%.
