Khanh Son rising thanks to Resolution on agriculture, farmers and rural areas

Implementing Resolution of the 7th Congress by the Session X Central Executive committee on agriculture, farmers and rural areas, Khanh Son District of Khanh Hoa Province has changed plant – crop structure and built production – service models effectively. Accordingly, material as well as spiritual life of the people in the district has been improved and the rural areas look better.  

Thanks to the 5-year implementation of the resolution, Khanh Son District now has more than 95% of the households using electricity from the national grid, 80% of the population having clean water, 100% of the communes and town having asphalted road to the center, 60% of inter-hamlet roads and 70% interior field channels being made of concrete, and communes having schools and medical centers. The improvement has partly forwarded production and raised the living of the residents in the rural and mountainous areas.

Agriculture of the district also saw comprehensive development. Till 2012, the total area of plants reached nearly 4,600 hectares, rising by 2.7% over 2011; food production increased by 10% per year on average. Many kinds of plants such as durian, purple sugarcane, coffee and rambutan gave farmers VND100 – 250 million per hectare on average.

Up to now, the district has determined its main plants, which are suitable with the local soil, such as durian, purple sugarcane and jackfruit.

Beside this, under the resolution, infrastructures of agriculture and rural traffic in the district have been invested much, contributing in transferring economic structure and labor structure, creating jobs, raising income, and reducing poverty for farmers”, said Cao Pham Cuong, chairman of Khanh Son Farmers’ Association.

During the implementation process of the resolution, the district’s Farmers’ Association has directed farmers many planting and breeding models and helped them to access capital sources. A number of farmers, many of whom are ethnic minority people, have known to apply science and technology into production and enriched from planting and breeding, which partly has eliminated hunger and reduced poverty in the district.

For the new development period, Khanh Son District is stepping up science - technology application in production, intensifying investment in agriculture encouraging programs, transferring technology advances, encouraging investment in agriculture in the rural areas of the district, and combining Program on building new rural areas with projects funded by the Central and the province to make the resolution’s implementation more effective.
