These days, groupers and barramundies have bumper crop in Cam Ranh. They also go for good prices, bringing happiness to the local raisers.

Atmosphere of purchasing groupers and barramundies in Cam Ranh is very busy now. A trader named Nguyen Thi Hong Hanh, the owner of Hanh Nhu Private Enterprise, said, “For several days, I’ve bought 15 tons of groupers and barramundies. Currently, groupers are priced from VND220,000 – VND260,000/kg and barramundies from VND80,000 – VND90,000/kg, far higher than those in previous years.” Barramundies are launched only in the domestic market while most groupers are exported.

Nguyen Anh Tuan, who has 5 ponds of barramundis and 10 ponds of groupers in Cam Phuc Bac Ward, Cam Ranh, happily said, “Each of my ponds with 10,000 barramundi breeders worth about VND300 million, has harvested around 5.5 tons of fish. Groupers also are raised in the similar density and give the similar yield but need more investment, about VND500 – VND600 million/pond.”

Another raiser named Vu Thanh Hoi, shared, “My four grouper ponds have earned me about VND1.5 billion this crop.”

According to Nguyen Thi Huong, an official of Cam Ranh City Agriculture – Forestry – Fishery Encouragement Center, the city used to own a bigger area of raising groupers and barramundis before, but now it remains 130 hectares of raising groupers and 170 hectares of raising barramundis because some raisers changed to sweet snails or seaweed. So far this year, the whole city has harvested about 400 tons of groupers and barramundis. Their high productivity and high prices have brought profit to most raisers.

Up to now, it’s possible to say that there is a bumper crop of groupers and barramundis in Cam Ranh this year.
