Cao Xuan Dam, residing in Son Binh Commune, Khanh Son District, Khanh Hoa, not only has been known as an exemplary village patriarch dedicating his time and efforts to the village’s activities but also has always been at the forefront of family economic development in the locality.

For many years, people in Xom Co Hamlet (Son Binh Commune) have been familiar with Cao Xuan Dam, village’s head and head of elderly’s association, who has patiently come to each house to propagandize and disseminate the Party’s and the State’s policies, guidelines and laws as well as mobilize people to actively engage in working to reduce poverty and shape a life of comfort. Thanks to his efforts, the contradictions and problems in Xom Co Hamlet have been resolved reasonably, helping the locals to feel secure to do business.

According to Dam, in order to convince people to implement the Party’s and State’s policies and guidelines, beside a good command of those policies and guidelines, the public relation officers need to have a strong attachment with the locals. In addition, it also requires a close coordination among the executive committees, governmental offices and hamlet’s organizations.

“The most effective method to convince the locals is that the hamlet’s officials themselves prove their words by setting good examples in all activities. Therefore, apart from participating in social activities, I have always tried my best to do my family’s business, aiming not only to enrich myself and my family but also to set good example to the locals,” added Dam.

Dam’s family now owns a 3-hectare productive land planted with some crops such as coffee, durian, banana, rambutan and wet rice. He also raises oxen and chickens, helping him to have an average income of over VND100,000 million/year. He has recently planted two hectares of acacia trees and intends to plant pepper trees to expand the production scale. With his highly effective economic model, Dam has been honored as farmer doing business well in Khanh Hoa Province for many successive years. His productive area is a familiar place for people in Xom Co Hamlet to come to learn experience.

“Learning from Cao Xuan Dam’s economic model, my family is now focusing on taking care of durian and purple sugar-cane trees. He came to my house everyday to instruct me how to fertilize correctly and control pests; therefore, my plants have grown quite well,” said Cao Xuan Van, a farmer in Xom Co Hamlet.

Following village patriarch Cao Xuan Dam, many households in the hamlet have worked diligently. The state of purchasing and selling immature acacia trees and transferring land illegally has been reduced visibly compared to the previous time. The number of households out of poverty in Xom Co Hamlet has increased up to 75%.

Taking part in the resistance war against the US and many social activities in peacetime, the enthusiasm and dedication to work of village’s patriarch Cao Xuan Dam have been honored through many Resistance Medals and certificates of merits presented by Khanh Hoa Province and the nation during the last decades.
