These days, farmers in Cam Lam District, Khanh Hoa Province have sowed seeds of yellow chrysanths for the Lunar New Year Festival 2015.
Coming to Cam Duc Town, Cam Hai Tay Commune and Cam Thanh Bac Commune of Cam Lam District now, it’s easy to see thousands of chrysanth sapling pots covering many lands.
In Cam Hai Tay Commune, there are 7 chrysanth growing households, each of them features 2,000 - 5,000 pots. Tran Thi Nhi, a woman with 22 years’ experience in chrysanth growing, shared that this year, her family has bought 80,000 saplings for 3,200 pots of chrysanth trees. Her total investment has been VND200 million. Like many other growers, in order to cut cost, her family has made pots on their own. Each of the pots costs from VND4,000 to VND10,000.
Ngo Biet, a farmer with 18 years’ experience in chrysanth growing in Cam Duc Town, has sowed for 1,000 pots. Each of his five sons and daughters also has grown 3,000 pots on average.

According to Nguyen Ta, an agricultural official in Cam Lam District, the whole district is estimated to grow about 30,000 pots of chrysanths for the Lunar New Year Festival 2015, the same number as last year. This year’s chrysanth crop has started rather favorably.
There’s a fact that costs for chrysanth growing this crop have increased over last year. Little rain costs farmers oil and electricity for pumping water. Costs of seeds, fertilizers and labor also have risen; specifically, seeds: VND170,000/1,000 (up by VND30,0000), bamboo sticks: VND150,000/1,000 (up by VND30,0000), labor: VND120,000/day (up by VND20,000), etc.
However, most farmers here are expecting a good crop of chrysanths for the Lunar New Year 2015. They assess that despite little rain, the weather in the beginning of the crop like now is rather good, and hope that chrysanths continue selling well in the beginning of the crop.
Reportedly, output of Cam Lam chrysanths has been rather stable during the past years. Sales are not only for the local but for other places like Ho Chi Minh City, Vung Tau, Phan Thiet, etc.
