In order to implement the Politburo’s policy and Khanh Hoa Provincial Standing Party Committee’s action program on organizing campaign “Vietnamese people use Vietnamese goods”, since 2009, the provincial Department of Industry and Trade has held many activities to promote the consumption of Vietnamese goods.

In recent five years, the provincial Department of Industry and Trade has cooperated with many units and organizations to hold a lot of meaningful programs, aiming to raise the awareness and change the habits of consumers. Beside propaganda, during the last five years, Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Industry and Trade has given directions to the businesses to hold tens of trade fairs joined by thousands of businesses. Some main and outstanding trade fairs were the Vietnamese High-Quality Goods Fair held in 2011 and 2013, exhibition fair on economic – tourism for the Northern – Central – Southern, Tourism trading Industry and Trade Fair for the Southern Central Coast – Khanh Hoa 2013.

Especially, the department has also focused on bringing Vietnamese goods to the rural areas in the province. For example, the department associated with Co.opmart Nha Trang to organize many market-days with plentiful, diverse products in the districts like Cam Lam, Van Ninh, Khanh Vinh, Khanh Son, etc. The consumers have showed their favors to some common products such as clothes, footwear, canned food, housewares, electronic products, detergents, etc. thanks to their good quality and reasonable price. Through those market-days, the participating businesses could open many new distribution points, agents as well as sign memorandums of understanding and cooperation.

In addition, some businesses in the province have also actively responded to the campaign by organizing by themselves many spells of mobile sale in some mountainous, rural and remote areas throughout the province.

Changes in awareness

According to leaders of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Industry and Trade, the businesses have been very supportive of the campaign “Vietnamese use Vietnamese goods” and offered many new policies and business strategies to increase demands for consuming the businesses’ goods. The businesses have invested in technological equipment and applied innovative technology into production in order to change the model to meet different tastes of customers, improve products’ quality and reduce cost price.

After five years of implementing the campaign, there have been some positive changes in Vietnamese consumers’ perception and awareness. Specifically, people have always supportive of the State’s policy on the campaign, shown through the increasing number of visitors at the trade fairs.

According to Cao Dinh Phan, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Industry and Trade, the program “Bringing Vietnam-made goods to rural areas” has helped the consumers to have chance to use Vietnamese prestigious goods.

Although it requires many more flexible methods to continue boosting domestic consumption, the campaign “Vietnamese people use Vietnamese goods” has helped Vietnamese consumers to have enough information to make comparison and evaluation among products in order to avoid buying fake and smuggled goods as well as create favorable conditions for Vietnamese goods to develop, Phan added.
