Confectionery and jam are main products for Tet. Nha Trang now are flooding this kind of goods. This year, domestic products are dominating the market.

At most stores and supermarkets, it’s easy to see that domestic confectionary is holding the upper hand over the imported. Products of local brand names like Bibica, Kinh Do, Huu Nghi, Hai Ha, etc. are selling well.

“Consumers now are very careful when buying confectionery for Tet. They demand products which have reasonable prices but nice appearance and good taste. Domestic products now have been better and satisfactory. 80% of the confectionary products in my stores are locally made”, a seller named Tuyet at Dam Market said.

This year, confectionary producers continue investing in Tet products. Kinh Do has launched many gift boxes of biscuits which are well-decorated with New Year greetings and spring flowers. Bibica has the product called Lac Viet with the bronze drum-shaped iron box, beside the high-grade Goody biscuits with many flavors including butter, milk, cashew nut, cherry, etc. There are also sugar-free products such as Khanh Hoa salangane nest wafer and Ba Tich rice cracker.

Meanwhile, candies have few changes in kinds but have more good-looking appearance. For example, jelly is made in shapes of pineapple and banana, or cocoa candies and chocolate are packed by unique boxes in shapes of heart, gold bullion and gold coin.

Most jam of kinds is made in Hanoi and Da Lat like tamarind jam, strawberry jam, kiwi jam, ginger jam, coconut meat jam, etc. Seeds are made in various flavors such as sugared lotus seeds, cashew nuts with seasame or salt, and honeyed cashew nuts. Local producers also worked out many kinds of dried fruits such as dried jackfruit, dried banana and dried apple and dried taro.

Prices of local confectionary and jam this year have seen 5% - 10% increase over last year, due to the rise of production cost. Imported products also have made 5% increase in price.

These are current prices of some products: watermelon seeds: VND90,000 – VND140,000/kg; sunflower seeds: VND70,000/kg; squash seeds: VND160,000/kg; ginger jam and coconut meat jam: VND80,000/kg.
