Settling down in Ninh Ma (Van Tho, Van Ninh, Khanh Hoa) since 1997 with a lot of difficulties, Le Quang Toan, a farmer has become a billionaire by raising shrimps.

In 1997, Toan and his family left their hometown Cam Ranh for Ninh Ma with only VND20 million. Initially, he invested two ponds to raise shrimps but didn’t get good result. Then, many years later, he tried to study other ways. In 2012, being assisted by the commune Farmers’ Association, he learnt the model of super-intensive shrimp farming in Binh Dinh Province and Ninh Thuan Province. Realizing its effects, Toan started raising shrimps in this way in two ponds with a total area of 5,000 sq.m. and achieved success. “With the support of the commune Farmers’ Association and my decisive trial, I was successful in super-intensive shrimp farming. The first crop earned me a profit far more than before that”, Toan said.

From the first success, Toan continued investing five more ponds with 1.5 hectares in area. In 2013, the 7 shrimp ponds earned him nearly VND9 billion in net interest. With the bigger capital, he opened an agent selling food for shrimps and expanded super-intensive shrimp farming by 4.5 hectares. Over the past 5 years, his total turnover has been more than VND25 billion, giving him over VND11 billion in net interest after deducting expenses. At present, beside raising shrimps, he’s also the owner of a wedding restaurant, creating jobs for 40 local laborers with an average income of VND3 million/person/month.

Not only enriching himself, Toan also often helps other farmers in the association with capital or technologies to earn better living and escape from the poverty. Tens of farmers have been given help by him with the lowest aid of VND50 million/household and the highest aid of VND1.3 billion/household.

Tran Quang Khanh, Chairman of Van Tho Commune Farmers’ Association, confirmed, “All Toan’s economic models have operated effectively. He’s really a good example for other farmers. Moreover, he’s good at doing social works such as donating to support farmers, build houses of gratitude, etc.

For many running years, Le Quang Toan has won the title Good farmer at the Central level.
