Lunar New Year Festival (Tet) 2016  will come in nearly three months. Farmers in Khanh Hoa Province is promptly increasing breeding to serve the high demand on Tet.
 
Increasing heads of cattle and fowls
 
According to Chairman of Cam Lam District Farmers’ Association Nguyen Lai, some farms in the district has started raising heads of cattle, mainly in communes Cam Thanh Bac, Cam Hiep Nam, Cam Hiep Bac, Cam An Nam, and Cam An Bac.
 
In Van Phu Commune (Van Ninh District), the number of cow has risen by 100 to about 1,300. In Van Tho Commune (Van Ninh District), domestic fowls have risen by 30%, said Tran Quang Khanh, Chairman of the commune Farmers’ Association. 5 big farms in this commune is raising about 15,000 chickens and ducks. Each farming household is also raising about 50 ones. “Poultry price is dropping this time, but it’s forecast to rise again in the last month of the lunar new year.Therefore, raisers still are increasing the number to sell on Tet”, Khanh added.
 

Pham Van Son (in Vinh Hoa Ward, Nha Trang) is raising about 20 Dong Tao chickens, a favorite kind on Tet. Each Dong Tao chicken, raised in 6 months with about 3.5 kilograms in weight, costs about VND1 million. “Dong Tao chicken now is selling at VND250,000/kg, and the price may go up to VND300,000/kg”, Son said.

Initiative to prevent epidemic diseases
 

Khanh Hoa Province now has more than  200,000 head of cattles and more than 2.7 million fowls of many kinds. Up to now, the second inoculation in the year has been done in the whole province.

Farmers in the province also attached importance to preventing epidemic diseases for their domestic animals. To keep safe for the flock of Dong Tao chickens, Son’s family has clean coops and they have been inoculated. Beside give free inocations, venetary officials have guide his family how to take care Dong Tao breeder healthily.
 
Farmer Ho Ngoc Thu, in Van Binh Commune, Van Ninh District also shared that, “My family is raising more than 200 chickens and 50 cows. To prevent diseases for them in the wet weather, we have venetary officials to inoculate them. We also add nutrition and food for our animals, especially supplementing vitamins and minerals to raise immunities for them.
In Cam Lam District, 100% raisers have given inoculations for their domestic animals. In other locality, this work also has been done strictly. In the time to come, the provincial Venetary Agency will launch a month for hygien and disinfecting to control epidemic diseases and propagandize raisers to do measures to prevent diseases for their animals.
