Thien Tam Fund of VinGroup has recently launched “Reproductive cow bank” in Khanh Hoa Province. Followings are main information about this charity program supplied by Deputy director of the provincial Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.

Thien Tam Fund has supported 1,000 reproductive cows, weighing 140 – 160 kilograms and worth VND18 -20 million each. The support costs about VND18 – 20 billion. Basing on the number of poor and nearly poor households in localities of the province, Nha Trang City has been allocated 20 reproductive cows, Cam Ranh City: 124, Ninh Hoa Township: 171, Van Ninh District: 115, Dien Khanh District: 75, Cam Lam District: 145, Khanh Vinh District: 201, and Khanh Son District: 149.

In the first period of the program, the cows are given to poor households that have no cows or buffaloes. They also are required to be capable of taking care of the given reproductive cows well, have good cages, and have desire to join the program. In the second period, other poor or nearly poor households will receive calves reproduced by the cows in the first period.

Vingroup’s support aims to support poor and nearly poor households to expand their breeding, raise pulling, create jobs, increase income and form a “Reproductive cow bank” in the province. Joining the program, cow receivers have to give a calf back to the program. So, they are responsible for raising and managing the breeding cows.  When the cow gives birth to the first calf, they have to raise the new-born calf to fixed months. Then, female calves will be delivered to another household while male calves will be sold by auction and the takings will be used to continue buying another reproductive cow. After delivering the first calf to the program, the raiser has all proprietary rights to the cow they’ve received.

To administer the “Reproductive cow bank”, the provincial People’s Committee has established a provincial steering board, and built a policy on spending on management at levels as well as corresponding expenditure in case of reproductive cows dying of diseases, natural calamities and other unpreventable reasons.
