Vinh Luong Fishing Port upgraded, seafood quality raised

The Ministry of Agribank and Rural Development has just finished the upgrade for Vinh Luong Fishing Port (in Nha Trang City), partly raising the quality of fisheries.

After being invested, Vinh Luong Fishing Port has a 44 long wharf with 900m2 lean-to, 90m-long breakwater, seafood classifying and loading house, sanitation area, area for fishing equipment, internal roads and pavements, water supply, sewage disposal, power system and subsidiary works. The wharf includes two passages, one for fishing boats to unload cargo and the other for boats to fill oil, which keep the wharf’s order.

“It was very difficult and time-consuming (1 – 2 hours) for boats to take oil before. But now, it takes my boat about 30 minutes”, said Nguyen Hong Son, the owner of KH 00131 TS.

Nguyen Thi Ngoc, a ice supplier for fishing boats and frozen vans said, “The port has become spacious and clean now”.

Towards second-class fishing port

According to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vinh Luong Fishing Port has been selected to invest to meet the requirements for food hygien and raise opering effects (capacity: 10,000 tons of seafood/year). At present, the fishing port has been invested for the second phase with 21 items by the State budget. In addition, the fishing port also has ice producing area, filling station and services to better its operation.

However, the work of Vinh Luong Fishing Port hasn’t been perfect. Another of service system package worth VND7 billion need to be invested for Vinh Luong Fishing Port qualified for a second-class fishing port in the coming time.

Vinh Luong Fishing Port has been upgraded under Coastal Resources For Sustainable Development Project (CRSD), funded by The World Bank. The total investment is VND35 billion, including VND31 billion in ODA capital and VND4 billion in reciprocal capital. The work was executed in 17 months and put into operation in November, 2015.
