Revival of Khanh Hoa's shipbuilding industry

The year 2015 marked a strong revival of the shipbuilding industry in Khanh Hoa Province. The industry is expected to keep developing strongly in 2016.

Revenue increased by 300% - 500%
 
According to leaders of Cam Ranh Shipyard Co., Ltd., the company faced many difficulties in 2013 and 2014 because there were too few orders. In 2015, the company was ordered to build fifteen steel-hull fishing boats in which eight vessels were completed and the remaining ones will be finished in 2016. Also in 2015, thanks to the revival of the economy, the company received many orders for tourist boats.

Reportedly, the total revenue in 2015 of Cam Ranh Shipyard Co., Ltd. was VND123.5 billion, increasing by 500% compared to 2014, helping to raise income and improve life quality of the employees. 
 
Also last year, another Khanh Hoa’s shipbuilding company, Nha Trang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., signed twenty-five vessel repairing contracts and seven vessel building contracts, resulting in total revenue of VND65.5 billion, a nearly 300% increase compared with 2014.
 
A bumper year expected
 
According to Le Van Toan, Director of Nha Trang Shipyard Co., Ltd., in 2016, the company set target to sign new contracts and finish building the steel-hull fishing boats under the contracts signed in 2015. Besides, the company will also focus on boat repairing service in order to help the employees to have stable jobs and income. The company expects to get a revenue close to VND80 billion.
 
Reportedly, the unfinished contracts alone of Cam Ranh Shipyard Co., Ltd. can ensure employment for the company’s employees until the mid-year. The company has been negotiating to sign new contracts. According to the plan, in 2016, Cam Ranh Shipyard Co., Ltd. will complete building ten vessels and liquidate old ones, gaining a total revenue of nearly VND300 billion.
 
Cam Ranh Shipyard Co., Ltd. has been building two seiners for the fishermen of Phu My District (Binh Dinh Province), one seiner for the fishermen of Phu Yen Province, 825CV in capacity each; two 814CV-vessels of fishing logistics services for a customer in Nha Trang. Additionally, the company is in the process of building three tourist catamarans worth VND25 billion each for Vinasea Travel. Apparently, this travel company will place another order with Cam Ranh Shipyard Co., Ltd. to constructs two tourist catamarans. Apart from that, the company has many projects for building steel-hull fishing boats, tourist vessels and repairing ships to be done in the year of 2016.
 
“The shipbuilding industry in 2016 promises to have better development than 2015 thanks to the Decree 67 as well as increase in demand of exploration vessels and tourist boats. The section of large freighters has still had many difficulties but the demand for small and medium-sized ships has significantly increased. In 2016, beside seeking new contracts, the company will speed up the equitization which will create good conditions to call for investment and cooperation", said Le Quang Lam, General Director of Cam Ranh Shipyard Co., Ltd.
