After one-year construction, the first phase of Cam Ranh International Port project invested by Tan Cang – Petro Cam Ranh Co. Ltd. has been finished and put into operation. Following is the translation of an interview Khanh Hoa News made with Colonel Uong Xuan Phuc Son, the director of the company.
- What role of Cam Ranh International Port is?
- The launch of Cam Ranh International Port will contribute into executing the target of national defence and economic development. It will confirm right leadership in lines and policies of the Party, the State, the Military and the Navy to develop seaports for international integration of the country.
The project is located in an area out of the wind and wave, with large waters and stable water depth. Its geology is suitable for building wharf to receive big-size ships and repair as well as build marine works like drilling rig.
These advantages enable diversified fields for Cam Ranh International Port. The port can receive military as well as cruise ships supply shipping services at Cam Ranh Military Basement, intensify the relationships with international naval forces to partly increasing the position of Vietnam, ensure comprehensiveness for the operation of boats, and partly make the East Sea more peaceful and stably.

- Which scale will Cam Ranh International Port have when completed?
- Now, only the first phase of Cam Ranh International Port has been finished. Initially, the port is exploiting three domains, including supplying marine services for military as well as cruise ships, repairing ships, and supplying tourist services for crews and tourists.
When completed, Cam Ranh International Port will become the biggest port in term of wharf length with the maximum loading capacity of 110,000DWT. It will be capable of receiving 18 ships at one time and 185 ones each year. The port is also designed to shelter ships from 8-level storms.
- How is Cam Ranh International Port oriented?
Under the policy of the Party, the State and the Ministry of National Defence, Cam Ranh International Port will be built to become one of the leading deep water ports in Vietnam, supplying marine services and repairing big-size and modern ships.
The operation of Cam Ranh International Port will contribute into exploiting potentials and advantages of Cam Ranh Bay. The port is expected to be a modern and prestigious logistics establishment to equal large seaport in the world. The port has been established a quality management system with international standard, qualified for a regular exemplary safe port to draw foreign countries and shipping firms.
In addition, Cam Ranh International Port aims to develop the country in the context of deep and wide international integration and the execution of open line on external affairs towards multilateral and diversified relationships abroad.
