Bumper of skipjack tunas

In recent days, tens of fishing boats of Khanh Hoa Province and neighboring provinces landed at Hon Ro Fishing Port (Nha Trang City) with bumper of skipjack tunas.

 

 

After landing for selling fish, Vo Van Huyen, the owner of KH92819 TS boat, happily said, “We has just caught well with 15 tons of skipjack tunas. The two trips before were also bumpers with 15 -17 tons each.”

 

 

Another boat owner named Nguyen Tan Lau also said that his boat had just caught more than 12 tons of skipjack tunas. “From the beginning of the lunar new year, 4 sea-going trips of my boats have caught a bumper of skipjack fish. With price of VND20,000/kg, each trip has earned VND100 – 150 million. We paid about VND10 million to each worker, as twice as normal”, Lau said.

During the past 6 months, skipjack fish have been purchased stably at VND20,000/kg at Hon Ro Fishing Port. According to a fish magnate, skipjack fish are favorite of many markets, especially the West Asia. After purchased, fish are supplied for seafood processing factories in Suoi Dau Industrial Zone. Owing to the bumper fishing, the supply is abundant.

Nguyen Trung Hieu, manager of Hon Ro Fishing Port, confirmed, “60-70% of the seafood land at Hon Ro Port are skipjack tunas. This time, each day the port receives up to 25 – 30 boats landing with 10 – 15 tons of skipjack fish each. “To facilitate boats to load fish, take ice, fill fuels, etc., we always picket at the wharf for fast support”, Hieu said.
