Cam Ranh sets up cooperative groups to improve production

To create products with good productivity and quality and competitive price, many farmers in Cam Ranh City (Khanh Hoa Province) have linked with each other in the form of cooperative groups to develop production.

Nguyen Van Tu, member of lobster raising cooperative group in Binh Ba Dong Hamlet, Cam Binh Commune, said that, since 2014, his household and 10 others have set up a cooperative group to supporting each other in raising lobsters. “We meet each other every week to review and learn experience from each other in order to raising lobsters better”, said Tu.

 

In mid 2014, a lobster raising cooperative group was also established in Binh Ba Tay Hamlet with 9 members. According to Dang Thi Ngoc Linh, vice-chairwoman of Cam Binh Commune People’s Committee, being in cooperative groups helps farmers closer with each other. Environment in lobster raising areas has been kept by the members, so no pollution has occurred. Especially, cooperative groups help their products not to be purchased at low prices by magnates. In 2015, each member of the cooperative groups earned more than VND300 million. From their results, the same cooperative group model will be set up in Binh Hung Hamlet in the coming time.

Before that, in Cam Thanh Nam Commune also, 3 cooperative group models had been established, including mango planting and selling, sugarcane planting, and jujube planting and selling. The cooperative group of jujube planting and selling in Quang Hoa Hamlet has show the best. “Established in 2014, the cooperative group of jujube planting and selling has 37 participants. Its members have set up a general process for caring and harvesting jujubes. Additionally, they have supported each other in seeds and techniques”, said Ngo Van Nhe, Chairman of Cam Thanh Nam Commune Farmers’ Association.

 

According to Ho Tan Cuong, head of the jujube planting and selling cooperative group in Quang Hoa Commune, in 2015, the members were lent with preferential interest rate for water well drilling and trained techniques on jujube planting. The members also exchanged experience with each other. Then, jujube productivity rose sharply. Each member earned VND150 – 200 million/hectare after expenses.

 

Up to now, Cam Ranh City has set up 19 cooperative groups in agriculture and pisciculture with 195 members, creating jobs for 552 local laborers. Leader of the city Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Development appreciated, “The operation of the cooperative groups has helped their members to confidently sign big sales contracts with businesses to have stable sales. The total amount of goods also has increased, partly raising income of the cooperative groups as well as their members.”
