Coming to shrimp raising areas along the route of Co Ma – Dam Mon, we saw the harvesting in many shrimp raising ponds with a lot of frozen vans awaiting them. Ngo Khac Chi, a pond owner, said that he hired about ten laborers to catch shrimps in his 3,000m2 pond. With average price of VND116,000/kg (about 100 shrimps/kg), he earned about VND800 million after expenses. He revealed that doing safe principles rightly, giving good care and following the growth of shrimps helped him have a bumper crop.

As studied, 80% of shrimp raisers in Van Tho Commune are enjoying a bumper crop. Many of them have earned billions of VND. For example, Do Thanh Tien in Tuan Le Hamlet has harvested 14 tons of shrimps from his 3,500 sq.m. pond. With price of VND150,000/kg for the type of 50 shrimps/kg, he earned more than VND1 billion. He’s improving his pond for the third raising time of the year. He said that his bumper crop of shrimps is owing to good management of water source and good breeders.
According to Chairman of Van Tho Commune Farmers’ Association Tran Quang Khanh, with the support of the commune Farmers’ Association and technologies traffered by breeder producing companies, raisers have been aware of breeding technologies, bought good-quality breeders from prestigious companies and treated the water source, therefore the shrimps rarely got diseased. In Tuan Le Hamlet, with 40 hectares of shrimp raising areas, 60% of the raisers earned profit in the first crop. In the second crop, the weather was better, the shrimps grew well. Most of the raisers won profit. Especially, some got big profits, like Tran Nga with more than VND10 billion in profit. After the two bumper crops, raisers are promptly renewing ponds to continue the next crop.
