Raising cows by intensive breeding and fattening, a local farmer named Vo Kim Chau (in Tan Phu Hamlet, Van Phu Commune, Van Ninh District, Khanh Hoa Province) has earned more than VND300 million/year in net profit.

The farmer revealed that he bought a herd of 20 Zebu cows and 10 out of them reproduced only one year later. Being an experienced farming encourager, he passively applied advanced technologies in intensive cow breeding. Their cage was built firmly on an area of 400 sq.m. The cows are given inoculation periodically. Chau said that economic efficiency from intensive cow breeing is good. With the price VND25 million of a reproductive cow now, each cow gives him a profit of VND10 million. Total profit from the 20 cows may come up to VND200 million.

Besides, the farmer has also raised cows for meat for 10 years. The cows are fattened for 3 months to sell. He revealed that with the price of VND100,000/kg, he earns more than VND100 million/year.

Chau also has shared his experience in fattening cows with other farmers at seminars and training courses.

According to Chairman of Van Phu Commune Farmers’ Association Dinh Van Hiep, intensive cow breeding model of Vo Kim Chau has been developed for over one year and showed high economic efficiency. The commune Farmers’ Association is monitoring and popularizing this model to other members. Tan Phu Hamlet and Van Phu Commune have appropriate conditions for raising cows; therefore, this model is an example for other raisers to study and follow.
