Good crop of durians in Khanh Vinh

Nguyen Son in Song Cau Commune told that his garden has more than 1 hectare of durians. Productivity of durians this year is not as good as that in previous years but their purchase price is VND40,000 – VND42,000/kg, rising by VND7,000 – VND10,000/kg.
 
Nguyen Thanh Buu, another farmer having a 1-hectare durian garden in harvest, shared, “This year, each tree gives 30 – 35 durians. They are very delicious, so many people want to buy them with high prices. We are very delighted.” Khanh Vinh District Forestry and Agriculture Station has chosen Buu’s garden as a model for other local farmers to study experience.

According to the district Agriculture and Rural Development Bureau, the whole district has about 80 hectares of durian areas, mainly in Song Cau Commune, Khanh Nam Commune and Khanh Vinh Township. Most of them are varieties of Ri6 and Monthong. They have thick and tasty flesh, so they are favorite of merchants and consumers.
 
In the project to develop durians as one of four main crops of Khanh Vinh District with high value as durians grown in Khanh Vinh sell well with high profit. A hectare of durian trees can earn VND200 – 300 million/crop. According to Vice-chairman of Khanh Vinh District People’s Committee Le Van Hoa, the district has set a target of 200 hectares of durian trees in 2020. To support intensive durian growing for farmers, the district has organized many training courses to give skills as well as experience in durian growing to local farmers. Many farmers in the district are expanding the area of durian growing.
