Sweet snails in Ninh Hoa Town, Khanh Hoa Province this year are enjoying good profit.
A sweet snail raiser in Ninh Hoa named Nguyen Duc Thanh said, “Sweet snail raisers in Ninh Hoa now are very pleased with sweet snail price which gives them good profit. Sweet snails are selling at more than VND200,000/kg (160 – 170 snails/kg). The raisers can earn hundreds of VND million depending on their raising area.”
Thanh’ households have raised 3.2 million breeding sweet snails in 8 ponds this year. He has poured VND250 million into the ponds, VND500 million in breeders and VND800 million in food for the snails. He has harvested about 12 tons of sweet snails. After expenses, he has earned more than VND900 million.
Many other sweet snail raisers in Ninh Hai Ward, Ninh Hoa Town also have earned well. For example, with 1 million of breeders, Le Van Hung’s household has sold more than 2 tons of sweet snails, earning over VND300 million.

Since 2007, sweet snail raising has bloomed in Ninh Hoa. Pond areas in Ninh Tho Ward and Ninh Hai Ward are approriate to sweet snail raising, therefore more and more people have invested in this kind of seafood.
According to Le Van Dung, Chairman of Ninh Tho Commune People’s Committee, the area of sweet snail raising in the commune has increased from 46 hectares in 2010 to more than 100 hectares now. The whole commune has harvested more than 220 tons of sweet snails so far this year. Raising sweet snails now brings more profit than white-leg shrimps. Therefore, many ponds in Ninh Tho have changed into raising sweet snails.
The whole Ninh Hoa Town now has 292 hectares of sweet snail raising area, mainly in coastal communes and wards. About 463 tons of sweet snails has been harvested so far this year.
