Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is making a plan to change breeding firmly and raise value.

During the past years, breeding in the province has tended to be concentrated on farms, especially to pigs and chickens. At present, 50% of pigs and 30% of chickens in the province are raised on farms. Recently, scientific advances in rearing, choosing breeders, prevent diseases, etc. have been applied into breeding.

To forward the province’s breeding sustainably and improve raisers’ living, the province targets to increase the number of cows, change 575 hectares of land to grow plants as cattle food, raise the rate of high-quality pig breeders to 65%, limit epidemic diseases, increase the rate of sewage disposal users to 40%.

According to Nguyen Luong Thao, deputy manager of the provincial Livestock Production Branch, to develop breeding sustainably, it’s necessary to define the main animals for the period of 2016 – 2020 (cows, pigs and chickens), diversify animals (goats, ostriches, crocodiles, etc.), change to concentrated breeding on farms, apply scientific advances, keep biological safety and diminish environmental pollution, etc.

The province will set up concentrated breeding areas, including 120 hectares in Van Ninh, 270 hectares in Ninh Hoa, 60 hectares in Nha Trang, 90 hectares in Dien Khanh, 120 hectares in Cam Ranh, 150 hectares in Cam Lam, 100 hectares in Khanh Vinh and 90 hectares in Khanh Son. Supports are incentive policy on concentrated livestock production under Decree 210/2013 by the government and credit for breeding development under Decree 41/2010 by the government. In addition, the province will concurrently carry out measures specializing in food, veterinary medicine, agriculture encouragement, cattle slaughter areas, sewage disposal, etc.
