Socioeconomic development program for areas of ethnic minority people and mountainous areas during the past years has partly change the face of mountainous areas in Khanh Hoa Province. In the period of 2016 – 2020, the program is expected to create new impetus for areas of ethnic minority people and mountainous areas to develop more.

According to Le Quang Ngoc, the manager of the provincial Section for Ethnic Affairs, continuing the socioeconomic development program for areas of ethnic minority people and mountainous areas aims to raise the living of the ethnic minority people, build these areas comprehensively, exploit natural resources effectively in environmental protection, and narrow the gap between mountainous areas with flat areas in the province to reduce poverty sustainably.
In the period of 2016 -2020, 39 communes in areas of ethnic minority people and mountainous areas in Khanh Vinh, Khanh Son, Cam Lam, Ninh Hoa, Cam Ranh and Dien Khanh will enjoy policies of the program. Besides, the program will pour investment in needy 5 communes and 8 hamlets, including Thanh Son Commune. Ba Cum Nam Commune (in Khanh Son District), Giang Ly Commune, Son Thai Commune (in Khanh Vinh District), Son Tan Commune (Cam Lam District), Song Bung Hamlet (in Ninh Tay Commune, Ninh Hoa Town), Suoi Sau Hamlet (in Ninh Tan Commune, Ninh Hoa Town), and Suoi Rua Hamlet (Cam Thinh Tay Commune, Cam Ranh City).
From the budget of VND745.36 billion for this period, the program will do propaganda to raise the awareness of ethnic minority people. Especially, the program will focus on supporting poor people in production. Also in the program, many social policies on supporting water, house repair, land for production, vocational training, jobs, etc. Infrastructures will also be upgraded.
The program set targets for the period of 2016 – 2020 as follows: 5 – 6%/year decrease in rate of poor households, VND12 million/person/year in average income of ethnic minority people in 2020, 70% of the communes qualified for traffic criteria in building new rural areas, 40% of ethnic minority laborers given vocational training, 95% of the population in mountainous areas using hygienic water, etc.
