Breeding increases number for Tet

The Lunar New Year festival (Tet) will come in 2 months. Raisers in Khanh Hoa Province are stepping up breeding to supply meat for Tet market.
 
Demand for meat often rises sharply in festive season. Therefore, most of raisers have started increasing heads of cattle and poultry. A raiser named Truong Ngoc Tuong (in Vinh Hoa Ward, Nha Trang) revealed that his family is raising 100 Dong Tao chickens to sell on the Lunar New Year occasion. Dong Tao chicken price is VND250,000/kg – VND350,000/kg. “The coming lunar year is the year of chicken, therefore, the demand for chickens as well as their prices are forecast to rise then”, Tuong said.
 
In Cam Lam District, the number of pigs and free-range chickens has risen by 15% - 20%, mainly in Cam An Nam Commune, Cam An Bac Commune, Cam Hiep Nam Commune and Cam Thanh Bac Commune, according to Nguyen Lai, chairman of the district Farmers’s Association. Free-range chickens are selling at VND65,000 – VND75,000/kg; pigs at VND43,000/kg.

In Van Tho Commune, Van Ninh District, the number of pigs has raised by 100 to 550. The number of chickens has increased by 3,000 to 16,000 to serve the lunar new year, said Tran Quang Khanh, chairman of Van Tho Commune Farmers’ Association.
 
According to Le Minh Hai, head of Cam Ranh City Economic Department, Cam Ranh now has over 24,200 heads of cattle (including 143 buffaloes, over 9,400 pigs, over 9,000 pigs, over 5,600 goats and sheep) and 80,000 fowls. In comparison with the first half of the year, cattle and poultry have increased 10% - 15% in number. From now to the lunar new year, raisers will focus on taking care more than increase number.
 
Beside increasing number, raisers have paid attention to prevent diseases for their domestic animals. According to the provincial Veterinary Department, periodical vaccination has been done in the whole province.
