We visited a fried fish production workshop of Nguyen Thi Hong Hoa in Van Phuoc Commune when they were making a new batch of goods. More than 20 workers with labor safety and sanitation were working hard. The owner Hoa said that materials play important role in quality of fried fish. Fish are required to be fresh. Fish are mackerel, barracuda, ponyfish, hairtail, etc. No preservatives and flavors are used. There are special recipes for various kinds of fish. Each day, this workshop produces 1 – 2 quintals of fried fish. They are selling at VND60,000 – VND65,000/kg in the province and neighboring provinces.

Hoa said, “Consumers now pay attention to food safety and origin. Without brand name, fried fish in Van Ninh has no good price. We desire the fried fish to have brand name.”
 
Similarly, Tran Thi Lien, another fried fish workshop owner in Quang Hoi 2 Hamlet, Van Thang Commune also said that their fried fish satisfies food safety standards, but many customers still require brand name. “If our products have brand name, consumers will feel more secure when eating them. With brand name, we desire to have more sales, partly creating more jobs and more income for laborers”, Lien said.
 
According to Hoang Dinh Hau, deputy manager of Van Ninh District Economic Department, making fried fish is a long-standing industry in the district. The whole district has nearly 100 fried fish processing workshop, mainly in coastal areas. Each produces 1 quintal – 1 ton of fried fish. For many years, Van Ninh fried fish sell well in the province for its taste and quality. However, the product hasn’t been registered  brand name, so their price is still lower than its value. “Recently, the district’s authority has entrusted the district Economic Department to build collective brand name for Van Ninh fried fish. At present, we are surveying to set up the project. In the time to come, we will coordinate with the provincial Center for Application of Science and Technology Advance to build collective brand name for Van Ninh fried fish”, Hau shared.
 
According to vice-chairman of Van Ninh District People’s Committee Vo Luc Pham, Van Ninh fried fish is available at some supermarkets in the province. However, its production scale and sales haven’t been expanded. Therefore, building Van Ninh fried fish is expected to partly expand market and production. It also will create jobs and raise income for local laborers.
