“In five recent years, a lot of people in Cam Linh Ward have raised painted rock lobsters. Their price is lower than price of ornate rock lobsters, but they are easier to raise”, said a raiser named Truong Van Khang in Cam Linh Ward.
According to Nguyen Thi Chau Pha, chairwoman of Cam Linh Ward Farmers’ Association, the ward has 87 households raising lobsters with more than 1,000 cages. Most of them are painted rock lobsters.

In Cam Binh Commune, painted rock lobsters are raised a lot. “Aquaculture is the key economy of Cam Binh Commune. Lobster is the main one. 95% out of 1,300 households in the commune are raising lobsters. The number of lobster cages is about 4,600. Lobster production in 2016 totaled 200 tons, 70% of which were painted rock lobsters. At this time, raisers are starting a new crop”, said Nguyen An – Chairman of Cam Binh Commune People’s Committee.
Diep Chan Hung – chairman of Cam Binh Commune Farmers’ Association and also a lobster raiser in Binh Ba Tay said, “Price of painted rock lobsters is lower than that of ornate rock lobsters. However, breeding painted rock lobster is easier; cost is lower; breeding time is shorter; risk is fewer; and price is more stable. My family has 10 cages of 3,000 painted rock lobsters. Recently, we have earned over VND200 million after expenses.”
According to an official of agriculture, fishing and forestry encouragement in Cam Ranh City, named Nguyen Thi Huong, “29,300 out of 30,000 aquacultural cages in Cam Ranh are raising lobsters, 70 – 80% of which are painted rock lobsters. Raising painted rock lobsters has risen in Cam Ranh in two recent years, mainly in Cam Binh, Cam Linh, Cam Phuc Bac, Cam Phuc Nam, Cam Phu, etc.
