After being issued investment policy decision, investors of solar power projects in the south of Khanh Hoa Province have started construction.

Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee has just agreed on policy to allow EVN Central Power Company to invest the project of Central Solar Power Plant with power of 50MW on an area of 70 hectares in Thuy Ba Hamlet and Tan An Hamlet, Cam An Bac Commune, Cam Lam District. The provincial People’s Committee has entrusted the company to survey and suggest the project’s execution. Total expenditure for the project is estimated at VND1,904 billion. The project is expected to start construction in end 2017 and finish in end 2018.

The provincial People’s Committee has just issued decision on policy for a solar power plant in Cam Thinh Dong, Cam Ranh City. The project on 70 hectares is expected to have power of 60MW. It is planned to be invested more than VND2,000 billion.

In early 2016, the provincial People’s Committee issued decision on policy for a project of 10MWP solar power plant invested by Tuan An Sunpower Joint Stock Company. This project aims to build and operate a 10MW solar panel plant mixing with the 22KV grid to produce about 14.5 million KWh of electricity each year.

According to Tran Minh Hai - Deputy director of the provincial Department of Planning and Investment, in early 2016, many investors ask permission to develop solar power projects in mountainous communes in Cam Ranh City and Cam Lam District; however, the province’s policy is verifying ability of investors and only allowing projects built on fallow.

Average solar radiation in Cam Ranh is about 5.34kWh/m2/day. The figures are far higher in Cam Thinh Dong Commune and Cam Thinh Tay Commune. Solar radiation in Cam Lam District is also high. This is a favorable condition for solar power projects in these places. Moreover, possibility of connecting to the national grid is easy. During the past time, the provincial Department of Industry and Trade and professional agencies of Cam Ranh City and Cam Lam District have jointly carried out field research and define location for the solar power projects.

The solar power projects are opening new expectations for a clean power source in the south of the province.
