5 duties need to be fulfilled
According to the program to develop trademarks of special products in Khanh Hoa Province in the period of 2016 – 2020, 5 main duties are considering, setting trademark ownership; protecting, developing trademarks; registering trademarks for products for export; applying scientific research, transferring technologies to improve productivity and product quality; and do marketing for trading and trademarks.
Accordingly, appropriate authorities will select specific products with high value to register trademark ownership. Application of scientific production processes like VietGAP, GlobalGAP, HACCP, ISO 9001, etc. to improve value and competitiveness for products. Activities such as recovering, selecting seeds, improving cultivation, preventing pestilent insects, havesting, preserving, renovating processing technologies, building models and training will be paid more attention. Besides, market study, trade promotion and marketing will also be developed with many activities like studying markets and products, support marketing; linking trademark marketing with products in local cultural events; setting up and connecting distribution chains; promoting fairs, exhibitions and do marketing for local products…All the above activities aim to the target at building, protecting and developing trademarks for local specific products as well as raising the community’s awareness of protecting and developing trademarks and value of products.
Many farm products registered trademarks
The provincial Department of Science and Technology is supporting localities to develop trademarks of specific products by registration each year (from 2017 to 2020) for certificated trademarks and collective trademarks reserved by the National Office of Intellectual Property. Three certificated trademarks are Khanh Son durian, Nha Trang salangane nest and Cam Lam mango. Three collective trademarks are Nha Trang fish, Ninh Da coconut and Ninh Giang daisy. In the time to come, the Department of Science and Technology will consider submissions from localities to set up trademark registration for some other products like Binh Ba lobster, Van Ninh garlic, Tuan Le coconut, Nha Trang apricot blossom, Nha Trang safe vegetable, Ninh Van garlic, Khanh Son purple sugarcane, Dien Binh star apple, etc.
To carry out effective programs, in the time to come, the provincial Department of Science and Technology will continue to propose the provincial People’s Committee supporting science application in farming according to VietGAP standard, establish geographic guide for products of farming, forest and fishery, advertise for products, etc.
