After the success of mulberry leave growing and silkworm breeding model in Dien Khanh District, Khanh Hoa Province, this kind of farming has spread to other places in the province.

In Dien Dong Commune, Dien Khanh District where mulberry growing and silkworm breeding in the province developed for the first time, this movement appeared in many hamlets. There are a lot of mulberry leave fields and yellow silkworm cocoons everywhere. Nguyen Hoang, one of pioneers in growing mulberry leaves and breeding silkworm, said that this farming is rather effective. For example, his family earns nearly VND50 million each year from 5 poles of mulberry trees. “With only 3 poles of mulberry trees, a box of silkworms can be fed with their leaves for one month. After 12 – 14 days, a box of breeding silkworms creates 45 – 50 kilograms of cocoons. With cocoon price ranging from VND120,000/kg to VND170,000/kg, profit can reach VND3 – 4 million for two workers in a half of one month”, Hoang shared.
