After doing farming hard for many years, Tran Thoai Phuong, 63, in Phuoc Son Hamlet, Phuoc Dong Commune, Nha Trang City has become a typical example of good production and trading in Phuoc Dong Commune.

Phuong was born in Lam Dong Province. She came to Khanh Hoa in 1999 to set herself up in breeding. Up to now, she has a spacious house and a 8,000 sq.m. farm with high income. She has experienced hard working with different jobs to reach this reap the fruit of her labour.

Initially, Phuong started breeding with strange animal lizards and rabbits. Due to not having experience, she lost. However, she was not dispirited. She kept raising rabbits. She raised some couples of productive rabbits and sold rabbits. Then, she continued raising lizards. By the profit from raising rabbits and lizards, she bought land to build farms of cows, chickens, pigs, etc. and fields of bananas, manioc, etc. In the peak time, her farms have over 1,000 rabbits, 15,000 chickens, 50 female pigs, 200 pigs for meat. Farming earns her VND45 – 55 million/month and creates jobs for 10 laborers with an average income of VND3.5 million for each.

Sharing experience in farming, Phuong said raisers should choose experimented types of breeders, especially locally-produced ones. She also advised that raising various kinds of animals should be done to reduce risks. At present, as pork price is falling down, she has lessened the number of pigs and increased raising chickens.

Not only good at farming and doing business, Phuong’s also an enthusiastic and exemplary member in the local Women’s Association. During the past years, she has supported other members in capital, breeders and experience to help them earn income. According to Pham Thi Yen, Chairwoman of Phuoc Dong Commune Women’s Association, Phuoc Son Hamlet is a mountainous area, and living is rather difficult. Therefore, Phuong is a good example, making good effect on local women, encouraging them to rise to escape poverty.
