The Management Board of Van Phong Economic Zone has recently presided over a meeting with businesses in Suoi Dau Industrial Zone about building accommodation for workers. Accordingly, in the time to come, the management board will execute building housing for workers in Suoi Dau Industrial Zone.
Suoi Dau Industrial Zone has about 11,000 workers now. The industrial zone has no accomodation for its staff, therefore, many workers are boarding at local people’s houses with poor conditions while some other workers had to travel very far to the working place. According to reports released by businesses, about 1,000 workers in Suoi Dau Industrial Zone have demands for accommodation. In coming years, when the industrial zone is filled and workers rise to 16,000, the number of worker having demand for accommodation is forecast to rise more.

According to Nguyen Hoat, manager of Housing and Real Estate Market Management of the provincial Department of Construction, the housing development program in the period of 2016 – 2020 of the province reserves about 3 hectares of land to build accomodation for workers.
On March 31, Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee delivered a dispatch to ask Van Phong Economic Zone Management Board to call enterprises in Suoi Dau Industrial Zone to invest in housing for workers.
On May 18, the management board had a meeting with enterprises about the planning for accommodation for workers. The enterprises showed interest in building housing for workers to create them a good living and make them have a long attachment with enterprises. Up to now, 5 enterprises have sent document to the management board confirming their desire to have accommodation for about 1,600 workers till 2020. Besides, Suoi Dau Industrial Zone Joint Stock Company and Hai Vuong Group have registered to build housing for their staff after fulfilling formalities related to investment and land.
Nguyen Xuan Nam, Chairman of the Members' Council of Hai Vuong Group said that his business are employing about 3,000 workers and planning to recruit 500 more workers for production. Many workers lived in far places like Ninh Hoa, Cam Ranh, Van Ninh. They have to move very far every day. It’s very hard and influences on their health as well as production capacity. “I’m willing to build accommodation free when the authority gives support in land and investment formalities”, Nam confirmed.
Hoang Dinh Phi, head of Van Phong Economic Zone Management Board said that the management encourages enterprises to build accommodation for their own staff. To serve demand for workers’ accommodation in Suoi Dau Industrial Zone, the management is doing steps to implement the planning and investment to build housing. Ensuring accommodation for workers is also a significant measure to solve the current labor lack in Suoi Dau Industrial Zone.”
