Linking chain of fishing, purchasing, processing and sale for striped tunas has recently been signed between Tin Thinh Co., Ltd. (based in Suoi Dau Industrial Zone) and 25 boat owners who are members of Vinh Phuoc fishing cooperative group (Nha Trang). This is a positive sign to raise fishing and trademark of Vietnam’s tunas.

According to the agreement, Tin Thinh Co., Ltd. undertakes to buy all products of fishermen in Vinh Phuoc fishing cooperative group, and Vinh Phuoc fishing cooperative group commits to sell all products to Tin Thinh Co., Ltd. Purchase price is VND1,000/kg higher than that in the market on the same time. In addition, the company will reward monthly and periodically fishermen who have 90% of consigment ranked grade A. The selling and buying are done at Hon Ro Port (Nha Trang City) and Da Bac Port (Cam Ranh City).

Nguyen Tan Lau, head of Vinh Phuoc fishing cooperative group, said, “Purchaing prices of magnates are lower than the company. Joining this linking chain, we are very happy when the company commits to buy all products with high prices. This encourages fishermen to go to sea and invest machines to preserve products.”

According to Nguyen Thi My Nhi, general director of Tin Thinh Co., Ltd., the world market has strict requirements to product quality and origin. Satisfied products cannot export to big markets like Europe, the US, Japan, etc. The linking chain in fishing, purchasing, processing and sale encourages fishermen to raise product quality and the company to have stable input with good quality. Current demand for striped tunas is big, but the company can buy about 300 – 400 tons, 50% of which are bought in Khanh Hoa. The figure supplies only 30% of the company’s demand for export. The company expects the ammount of input materials will increases after the linking is signed.

According to Nguyen Trong Chanh, head of the provincial Fishery Agency, tuna fishing has developed strongly in the number of fishing boats as well as fishing yield. The province now has 1,297 off-shore fishing boats. Most of them fish tunas. “After the success of the linking chain between Thinh Hung Co., Ltd. and Phuoc Dong fishing cooperative group, we believe that the linking chain between Thinh Hung Co., Ltd. and Vinh Phuoc fishing cooperative group will work well. In the time to come, the agency will keep supporting fishermen and businesses to develop linking chains sustainably as well as mobilizing fishermen to join the linking chains ans establish new chains with an aim to partly raise quality and trademark of Khanh Hoa seafood”, Chanh said.
