During the past years, lending for jobs in Van Ninh District, Khanh Hoa Province has show practical effects. It has created jobs, raise income and improve living for hundreds of local people.

Previously, coconut candy and peanut candy production in Loc Tho Hamlet, Van Long Commune, Van Ninh District had been small and ineffective. In early 2015, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan along with 5 other women in Loc Tho Commune set up a cooperative group of coconut candy and peanut candy production. Initially, due to capital lack, the group didn’t work well. In 2016, the Bank for Social Policies lent the group VND150 million from to expand production. Then, Lan invested in machines and materials for production. She also called other women who were making coconut candies and peanut candies in the hamlet to join the group and produce the candies in a closed line to ensure food safety. In addition, the group has expanded sale in more markets. “At present, the group is helping 10 local women have jobs. We produce over 2,000 products a day. After expenses, we earn about VND50 million a month. Each of us have an income of VND5 million. This income has helped us have stable life. I strive to pay all the debt in 2018 and create jobs for more than 20 women then”, Lan said.

Vu Trong Hai’s family in Xuan Dong Hamlet, Van Hung Commune had desired to raise productive cows but they had no capital. In 2014, he borrowed VND40 million from the Bank for Social Policies. Then, his herd of cows has risen to over 30, creating jobs for 5 members in his family with average income of over VND80 million each year.
Nguyen Chanh Lap’s family (in Xuan Tu 2 Hamlet, Van Hung Commune) also was lent VND30 million by the Bank for Social Policies to raise lobsters. Lap said, “Previously, our family had raised only 5 cages with about 200 lobster due to little capital. In 2016, the loan helped me to expand scale. Now, we have 20 cages with more than 1,500 lobsters.”

Bui Nhat Quang, an official of the Bank for Social Policies in Van Ninh District said that lending to create jobs has been done well in the district. The loans have helped borrowers stablize their work, expand production, and develop the economy. In 2016, the bank disbursed more than VND5.3 billion, which helped to create jobs for 237 laborers. So far this year, the figures have been over VND13.5 billion and 417 laborers.

According to Tran Ngoc Khiem, vice-chairman of Van Ninh District People’s Committee, for many years, the lending for jobs has been a channel to create jobs effectively for local laborers. Thanks to loans, many households and cooperatives can expand production and then raise income.
