Good signs in planting
Khanh Hoa Province had an area of safe vegetable qualified for VietGAP standard for the first time in July, 2014. That was the 2-hectare vegetable area in Ninh Dong Commune, Ninh Hoa Township. Up to now, Ninh Dong vegetable have been available in supermarkets in the province.
After the success of Ninh Dong vegetable, Dac Loc Hamlet, Vinh Phuong Commune, Nha Trang has set up a new safe vegetable area. At present, Dac Loc safe vegetable cooperative has about 10 hectares of vegetable growing, 2 hectares of which follows VietGAP standards, with many kinds of vegetable.
Realizing VietGAP vegetable to be favorite, more and more businesses have invested in it. Moreover, fruits have been grown safely. For example, with good quality and safety, safe fruits of Kim Kim Hoa Fruit Farm have been purchased by many restaurants, 4-5 star hotels and resorts.
Recently, green skin grapefruits, mangos and durians of Khanh Vinh District have been grown according to VietGAP standards under the direction of Khanh Vinh District Fruit Cooperative. The cooperative has more than 20 members growing fruits with nearly 50 hectares, 30 hectares of which are growing grapefruits.
Changes in breeding
According to director of CP Vietnam Breeding Joint Stock Company – Khanh Hoa Branch Le Dinh Cong, breeding of Khanh Hoa Province has developed sharply for 4 years. Owning to good livestock price, raisers have invested to increase scale. The branch currently has cooperation with 170 pig farms with 170,000 pigs and 13 chicken farms with 160,000 chickens. Breeders, foodstuff, vaccine, transit warehouse, etc. of the pigs and chickens are in strict control. Therefore, consumers can know their origins and prevent diseased products.
According to statistics of the provincial Breeding and Veterinary Branch, the province has 250 farms of pigs raised for food with hundreds of pigs each, in safe breeding process.
In chicken breeding, Phung Dau Son chicken (from Cam Lam District) has become popular livestock kind of many families not only in Khanh Hoa but in the whole country as well. Each year, Phung Dau Son farm sells hundred thousands of breeders. The whole province has 13 industrial chicken farms with 13,000 – 15,000 chickens in each, and 16 Tam Hoang chicken farms with 5,000 – 8,000 chickens in each. Emivest Feedmill Vietnam Co., Ltd. has also set up 30 industrial chicken farms in Khanh Hoa Province with 2,000 – 15,000 chicken in each. Many other chicken farms have thousands of chickens in each. With large scale and big investment, raisers attach importance to safety and health of their livestock, which decides success of fail in their breeding.
In a recent meeting with the Vietnam Farmers' Union, Le Thanh Quang – the Central Party Member and Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee Secretary said, “In recent years, Khanh Hoa has encouraged high-quality and safe farm produce. Safe vegetable has entered to schools, hotels, supermarkets, etc. At the present, the province is setting up big fields with tens of hectares…Farming is expected to better.”
