Industry of Khanh Hoa Province suffered serve damage by the storm Damrey. However, with efforts of businesses and the authority, the province’s industry also made a growth.
According to the statistics of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, Index of Industrial Production (IIP) of the province rose by 6.5% over that in 2016. Industrial production value of the province was VND47,551 billion, a 6.8% increase over 2016. Some main products are salangane nest drink and other nutritious drinks (32.5 million liters), beer (68 million liters), cigarettes (865 million packs), sugar (110,000 tons), frozen fishery (96,348 tons), electricity (2,690 kwh), etc.
Economic zones, industrial zones and industrial groups also made remarkable development. Van Phong Economic Zone attracted 131 projects with 105 domestic ones and 26 foreign-invested ones, 74 of which have go into operation with total capital of over VND13,000 billion. In Suoi Dau Industrial Zone, 83% out of 136.7 hectares has been filled. At present, 40 projects have put into operation, creating jobs for 12,000 laborers. Infrastructure of Ninh Thuy Industrial Zone is also being built. 13 projects have registered to invest in this industrial zone. 5 of them have started operation. In addition, the provincial People’s Committee has decided to establish 7 industrial groups and adopted their detail construction planning. Three of them have started operation, including Dien Phu Industrial Group (in Dien Phu Commune, Dien Khanh District), Dac Loc Industrial Group (in Vinh Phuong Commune, Nha Trang City) and Khatoco Breeding (in Ninh Ich Commune, Ninh Hoa Town). The three industrial groups have drew 52 projects, 44 of which have be put into operation, creating jobs for 4,520 laborers.
Tran Van Ngoan, deputy director of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, said, “Industrial production in the province in 2017 remained good growth. Some industries made growth in quality and quantity with more competitive products, for example ship building, beverage production, fishery processing, material building production, etc.”
In 2018, the provincial Department will consult the provincial People’s Committee to submit the provincial People’s Council to launch the resolution on supporting industrial zones and industrial groups in the province. The department will also follow storm damage repair of businesses as well as facilitate businesses to operate stably.
Besides, the department will keep calling for investment to fill Suoi Dau Industrial Zone and Ninh Thuy Industrial Zone, step up infrastructure construction in Trang E Industrial Group, Song Cau Industrial Group and Dien Tho Industrial Group. By local and nation industry encouragement programs, modern technology and machine application, management capacity improvement, vocational training, etc. will be paid attention.
According to Tran Son Hai, Permanent Vice-chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, in 2017, despite heavy damages caused by the storm Damrey, growth norms of the province’s industry were fulfilled. The vice-chairman directed that in the time to come, the administrative reform need be forwarded to facilitate investment as well as production and business; the provincial Department of Industry and Trade need support businesses in technology renovation, modern technology application in production, etc.
