According to Khanh Hoa Province Farmers’ Association, in the period of 2012 – 2017, vocational training and job creation for farmers achieved good results.

Diversified vocational training activities

During the past five years, vocational training held by farmers’ associations has focused on farmers’ demand in agriculture. For example, 4 – 5 years ago, when mango growers in Cam Lam District wanted to change old kinds to Australian mango variety, farmers’ associations opened vocational classes, guided planting techniques, etc. When growing garlic on soil with sand in Van Hung Commune, Van Ninh District rose, vocational classes about it were opened to give farmers knowledge about growing garlic. Recently, when growing green-skin grapefruits developed in Khanh Vinh District and grapefruit growing area rose sharply, classes about techniques to grow this kind of trees were organized to support the growers.

According to Le Quoc Toan, director of the provincial Farmer Supporting and Vocational Training Center (under the provincial Farmers’ Association), during the past five years, the center has opened 600 vocational classes for nearly 23,000 people. Beside theory, most of the classes focused on practice to help trainees apply knowledge into production and breeding. As a result, 85% of the trainees have stable jobs with higher income.

Beside this, forming effective economic models has been attached importance. Some models are growing green-skin grapefruits, raising chickens, growing mushrooms, growing flowers, etc. During the past five years, the provincial Farmer Supporting and Vocational Training Center has set up 22 models in which 670 farmers have been given training and stable jobs. Total  expenditure for the model has been VND7 billion, supported by the provincial Farmer Supporting Fund.

Giving vocational training and introducing jobs for rural laborers partly raise income for farmers.

More supports for farmers

During the past five years, the provincial Farmers’ Association has co-organized three supply - demand connecting seminars and joined three agricultural fairs held by Vietnam Farmers’ Union. Thanks to such activities, a lot of farm products have been introduced to consumers; some kinds have long-term contracts. Especially, the Farm Product Fair 2017 held by the provincial Farmers’ Union for the first time attracted the locals, which was a good sign for local farm products.

At present, the provincial Farmer Supporting and Vocational Training Center not only is a place for vocational training and support in planting and breeding but also has become a place to introduce specific and high-quality products for farmers in the province. The center desires to become a connection between production and trade promotion to seek output for farm products.

On an other hand, during the past years, farmers’ unions at all levels in the province have stepped up services and supports for farmer members. 7 groups of more than 100 people were taken to visit and study effective models of production, processing and selling in other provinces and cities in the countries. In 2018, the provincial Farmers’ Union will send some farmer member abroad to study effective production models. As planned, 15 will be sent to Korea to study technologies in high-level agricultural production, processing and preservation in September 2018.

According to Nguyen Trong Trung, chairman of the provincial Farmers’ Union, above activities showed the effective operation of farmers’ unions in the province as well as proved the role of the farmers’ unions in developing agriculture, building new rural areas and improving the farmer class.
