Reforming planting picture of the province
In 2017, farmers in Khanh Hoa Province sowed 85,000 hectares of annual plants, about 7,000 hectares of perennial plants and over 13,000 hectares of fruit plants. Rice and sugarcane made up about 20,000 hectares of the annual plant area. Some other kinds of plants like corn, manioc, beans, vegetable, etc. also made up 20,000 hectares. In perennial plants, there are about 5,000 hectares of cashew nut plants, 1,800 hectares of coconut plants, and some of coffee, pepper, etc. Fruit plants cover 13,000 hectares in area, including 9,000 hectares of mangoes, 3,800 hectares of bananas, 600 hectares of durians and 500 hectares of green-skin grapefruits. These fruit plants are giving high values to growers.
In the overall picture of the province’s agriculture, Ninh Hoa is still the capital of rice and sugarcane, Cam Lam is suitable with mango trees, Khanh Son is the land for durian trees, and Khanh Vinh is to grow green-skin grapefruits. The plan to restructure the agriculture the provincial People’s Committee has just launched focuses on developing the above plants more strongly, more deeply and more sustainably by many policies.

Improving farming effect
According to the above plan, the province will continue carrying out the project to changing planting structure ratifield by the provincial People’s Committee in September, 2016.
From now to 2020, the province is directed to maintain 20,000 hectares of rice, form concentrated rice growing areas, high-quality rice growing areas, etc., replacing ineffective rice growing areas by other plants. Corn will be kept at 6,500 hectares and new varieties of corn as well as new technical advances will be transferred. Areas for vegetable and beans will be stablized at 8,000 hectares; and more than 1,000 hectares of specialized growing area will be set up in Ninh Hoa, Dien Khanh and Cam Lam. Vegetable and beans are oriented to improve quality, qualified for GAP standards to develop safe vegetable selling system.
To annual industrial plants, beside large sugarcane field projects, concentrated sugarcane growing areas of 100,000 hectares with intensive farming is planned to be set up in Ninh Hoa.
To fruit trees, the province aims to increase area of mango trees from 8,800 hectares to 10,000 hectares in 2020, increase durian trees from 600 hectares to 800 hectares in three years, raise green-skin grapefruit area from 500 hectares to more…
