Huynh Tan Dien’s family in Van Khanh Commune, Van Ninh District, Khanh Hoa Province has harvested about 7.5 tons of rice on their 1-hectare field with productivity of 80 quintals/hectare. “Rice productivity this year is far higher than previous years. Price is also higher. Therefore, it’s a bumper rice crop. Especially, the high-quality rice variety has given good productivity and higher price. A hectare of rice earns about VND20 million, instead of about VND12 million last year”, Dien said.
 
According to Nguyen Ngoc Y, manager of Van Ninh District Economic Department, the district sowed about 4,600 hectares of rice in the winter - spring crop. Average productivity is about 65 quintals/hectare. In some northern communes like Van Khanh, Van Long and Van Phuoc, productivity came up to over 80 quintals/hectare. Remarkably, new rice varieties like BĐR27, ANS1 and Dai Thom 8 gave high productivity, up to 80 - 85 quintals/hectare. 
 
A bumper crop of rice was seen in Ninh Hoa Town with 8,400 hectares of winter - spring rice. According to Ninh Hoa Township Economic Department, beside the main variety of ML48 (60%), a lot of new rice varieties were grown. Productivity was 65 – 70 quintals/hectare , 10% - 15% higher than previous years. Rice price ranged from VND5,900 – VND6,100/kg.
 
This year, high-quality rice field of Ninh Quang farming cooperative sowed 230 hectares. Its average production was 70 quintals/hectare. Price of rice varieties ML48, ML202 was VND5,700 – VND6,000/kg while that of Dai Thom 8 variety was VND6,400 – VND6,500/kg. With the productivity and prices, this was a good crop. 
 
According to the leadership of the provincial Planting and Plant Protecting Agency, the whole province grew 20,240 hectares of winter - spring rice. Average productivity was 62 quintals in mid April and rose in end crop. Average productivity of the winter - spring rice crop this year made 10% – 15% increase year-on-year.
