Air conditioning for pig and chicken breeding has shown advantages and good results. This is a long improvement in developing breeding associated to environmental protection.

According to the provincial Veterinary Agency, there are about 170,000 pigs raised in the whole province. 60% of the pigs are raised in air-conditioned farms. The figure of raised chickens is about 2 million, 30%  of which are raised in air-conditioned farms. The figures of pigs and chicken raised in air conditioning have risen sharply in three recent years. Such farms feature well-invested cages, modern breeding, large number and links for wholesale purchase.

According to Nguyen Ngoc Quy, head of Phat Tai chicken raising cooperative group in Cam Hiep Bac Commune, Cam Lam District, from 2015 up to now, the group has invested nearly VND2 billion to air-conditioning 1,200 sq.m. to raise 12,000 chickens/litter (a litter lasting about 45 days). The chickens have grown well and heathily. Therefore, the cooperative group earns hundreds of VND for each litter of chicken.

A pig raising business in Khanh Binh Commune, Khanh Vinh District also said that the temperature kept at 27 °C helps pigs grow well and have good immune. Therefore, raising time is shortened. Only in 5 months, pigs weigh 100 kilograms. Breeding effects have increased obviously.

Doctor Nguyen Luong Thao, deputy head of the provincial Veterinary Agency, breeding in air-conditioned farms is one of models applying technological advances into breeding pigs and chickens. With 1,000 pigs, raisers can earn VND400 – 500 million for two litters a year. With 10,000 chickens, raisers can earn VND70 million after about 45 days.

Expenditure to invest an air-conditioned farm of about 1,000 pigs is about VND1 billion. Expenditure for an air-conditioned farm of about 10,000 chickens is about VND1 billion.

In recent years, breeding of Khanh Hoa has grown in scale with strong investment in farm and technology. Most farms in urban areas have been moved to remote areas. The province strives for increasing to 315,000 pigs and 2.6 million chickens by 2015.
