Although ship building industry is meeting a lot of difficulties, Hyundai Vinashin Shipyard Co., Ltd. is continuously handing over big capacity ships to foreign clients. This makes a significant contribution in export turnover of Khanh Hoa Province.
Million dollar ships
In 2017, Hyundai Vinashin attained USD311.15 in turnover, delivering VND84.32 billion to the State budget and creating 3,118 jobs. At present, the factory has 4,620 laborers (2,911 laborers, including 88 Korean ones in Hyundai Vinashin; and 1,621 laborers by subcontractors. Average income of laborers is VND8.6 million/person/month. |
To hand over 7 ships in time, technology played an important role. Hyundai Vinashin has invested, surveyed and applied advances in ship building to improve quality of products and reduce the time to finish products. The company is carrying out the target to shorten execution time.
“Hyundai Vinashin suffered serious damages by the storm Damrey in end 2017. But with the efforts, the company repaired the damages and stepped up production in early 2018. Besides, the general director has a lot of initiatives in management and production. The life of workers has also been attended to”, said Le Van Toan, deputy general director of Hyundai Vinashin.
In 2017, the company built 11 ships, but the storm damaged some ships. Therefore, the company handed over 8 of them and 1 repaired ship. The two others are being repaired and expected to be handed over this year.
Expanding manufacture
As planned, Hyundai Vinashin Shipyard Co., Ltd. will handed over 13 ships to customers. From now to the end of the year, the company will start building 8 new ships with capacity of 50,000 tons, 75,000 tons and 85,000 tons, and hand over 6 ships for customers in Italy, Japan and Greece. Turnover of the second half of the year is expected to reach USD206.1 million.
Le Van Toan said, “In the current context of ship building, it’s difficult to have such a growth. In 2018, we will surely fulfill targets and strive for a turnover of USD400 million.”
Beside the annual manufacture plan, Hyundai Vinashin has long-term plans to expand manufacture scale. Recently, the company has asked the provincial People’s Committee for more land to expand factory.
Tran Van Ngoan, deputy director of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, assessed, “Exporting 7 ships in 7 months is a commendable result, contributing into the target of USD1.3 billion in export turnover of the whole province, and creating jobs for thousands of laborers. In the time to come, the provincial Department of Industry and Trade will consult the province to facilitate and solve problems for this company.”
