To cope with the coming rainy season, Khanh Hoa Province has launched a lot of measures, especially checking technical safety for fishing boats and arranging storm avoiding areas to ensure safety for boats and fishermen in the province.

Preparing for a new sea going voyage, a fishermen named Phan Tan Anh (in Hon Ro, Nha Trang City), shared that, sea going this time may meet storms, big waves and strong winds. For the safety of a 20-25 day long sea going trip, we have consolidated our boat, repaired machines and power generator, equipped radio, weather teller, etc.
 
According to Le Dinh Khiem, an official of the province Fishery Department, the fishery continuously coordinates with border guard force and sea police to exchange information and support fishermen to keep safety for people and boats on sea. The registration for techincal safety of fishing boats has been made constantly and strictly to prevent fishing boats from breaking down on sea.

The whole Khanh Hoa province now has 9,813 fishing boats with over 33,000 fishermen. The provincial Department of Fishery has organized 8 fishing trade unions and 70 fishing cooperative groups, attracting the participation of 623 fishing boats. The fishing trade unions and the fishing cooperative groups can support each others timely on sea. The local authorities have built plans to prevent as well as cope with changeable weather, and organize the information station and a duty to cope with flood and rescue in order to guide boats to avoid from storms. 
 
The whole province has seven fishing ports, namely Hon Ro, Vinh Luong, Da Bac, Dai Lanh, Ninh Van, Binh Ba and Vung Ngan for fishing boats to shelters from storms. Ninh Hoa Town also has a shelter area in Ninh Hai Ward. It can be shelter about 1,200 boats. According to Nguyen Trung Hieu, head of Hon Ro Port Management Board in Nha Trang, right from the beginning of the year, a project to prevent and cope with storms and flood, including supporting fishermen and boats in rescue, arranging shelters for more than 1,100 boats in case of storms. 
 
To keep safe for fishing boats in the rainy season this year, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has requested localities to check fishing ports and sheltering areas to ensure vehicles as well as life of fishermen. Concurrently, fishing boats without equipment for safety will be punished strictly.
