Dien said that before he had caught eels, frogs, etc to raise income. Sometimes, he caught some water dragons which were bought at high price. Therefore, he thought of raising water dragons to earn money.
For two first times of breeding, he raised water dragons weighing nearly 90 kilograms but lost because he didn’t know what they eat. In March, 2017, from Interner, he knew a farm in Bac Lieu raising water dragons successfully. This farm consulted him to cross-breed tamed water dragons with natural ones to have water dragons familiar with supplied food. The farm also guided him to make cages suitable for water dragons.
”I feed them gourds, squashes, loofahs, pig lungs, etc.”, Dien said. Water dragons grow fast. They can be sold after 1 – 1.5 years. A breeder are priced at VND12,000. Water dragons are sold at VND300,000 kilograms. Water dragons sell well now because their supply is not enough.
According to Dinh Van Hiep, Chairman of Van Phu Commune Farmers’ Association, water dragon is a new kind of breeding animals. The association plans to support raisers with VND20 million to make cages and do formalities to register raising wild animals. The association also plans to choose Dien to join the coming creation contest.
