During the past years, the transaction office in Dien Khanh District of the Bank for Social Policies have launched policy credit to the people comprehensively and effectively. It has helped people, especially poor households and near poor households to earn and stabilize their living.
Credit supporting farmers
Hoang Van Thang’s family in Dien Tan Commune has more than 2 hectares of hill gardens. Due to lack in capital for production, he had grown only corn and manioc before. Only when the weather was favorable, they earned enough to live on. In dry years, they didn’t have enough to eat. In 2016, through the commune Farmers’ Association, Thang knew about the policy credit of the transaction office in Dien Khanh District of the Bank for Social Policies for poor households. He borrowed more than VND50 million to grow fruit trees, including jackfruits, green-skin grapefruits, etc. Having capital, he drilled wells and built watering system for his whole garden, which helped the trees bear heavy fruits and earned him about VND70 million each year. Now, he has paid the old debt and borrowed more capital to expand breeding black pigs.
In 2017, Le Thi Hai in Dien Dong Commune borrowed VND50 million from policy credit of the transaction office in Dien Khanh District of the Bank for Social Policies to raising chicken. Now, her family raises 1,000 – 1,200 chicken each year. After expenses, her family can earn over VND80 million each year…
Improving credit quality
According to Le Van Thanh, director of the transaction office in Dien Khanh District of the Bank for Social Policies, till end 2018, the office has given 19,000 loans with credit balance of more than VND311 billion. From early 2019 up to now, the office has disbursed over VND22 billion to 700 borrowers. To ensure the capital to right borrowers, the transaction office has connected closely with the local authorities to survey and give loans to borrowers. The transaction office often checks and guides borrowers to use loans usefully. Therefore, the capital in the district has been used effectively. It has also contributed into building rural areas, decreasing by 300 poor households and 300 near poor households in 2018.
Nguyen Thi Kim Huong, vice-chairman of Dien Khanh District People’s Committee. The disbursement of policy credit is more suitable with crops and production customs of the people, helping them develop fruit gardens; grow sugarcane, acacia; raise cattle and poultry, etc. Then, many farmers have escaped poverty and improved living. Besides, to uphold the loans, the district has entrusted leaders of communes and towns to verify and check loan use of borrowers. Especially, from March 1, the Bank for Social Policies has increased maximum loan for poor households to VND100 million, instead of VND50 million and maximum lending term to 120 months, which will give more opportunities for poor households to get loans to earn living and escape poverty.
