Buying shoes at a store on Le Thanh Ton Street, Nha Trang, Ha, a local, was very delighted when giving 15% discount as she did payment through POS. At another fashion shop, along with its sale-off, 10% discount is given for buyers who did payment by QR Pay. At some banks, there are a lot of incentives for card payment…Such ways aim to encourage non-cash payment.
According to Ly Van Tuyen, deputy director of Vietcombank Khanh Hoa, customers now can do payment by many channels like Internet banking, mobile banking, credit card, online shopping, automobile banking services, etc. In the first half of 2019, VND16,900 billion has been transferred by Internet banking and mobile banking through Vietcombank Khanh Hoa; more than 250,000 have registered electronic banking services of Vietcombank Khanh Hoa. The bank is also develop payment by QR code, a new and potential payment form.
In Agribank Khanh Hoa, the number of customers using mobile banking and Internet banking rises year-by-year. In 2017, the number of mobile banking users was 5,587; in 2018, the figure was 10,484; and in first five months of 2019, 5,700 new ones have registered this service. To Internet banking, the number of new subscribers in 2017 was 1,600; the figure in 2018 was 2,700; and the figure in the first five months of 2019 was 3,500.
Non-cash payment has a lot of benefits like stimulating spending, convenience for users, safety for transactions, saving cost of cash printing and issuing, lessening cash withdraw, etc. According to Nguyen Hoai Chieu, director of the State Bank – Khanh Hoa Branch, to impulse non-cash payment, the banking keeps propaganda activities to change the habit of using cash in payment. In addition, policies will encourage credit institutions to establish branches and transaction offices in rural and remote areas, apply technology in develop banking channels, intensify security in payment, etc. Preferential policies to stimulate non-cash payment are still needed.
In Vietnam, the number of people using smart phones is very big. With the development of payment through QR, in the future, not only in malls, supermarkets, stores, but in markets as well, people can do payment without cash.
According to the State Bank – Khanh Hoa Branch, till end 2018, transaction through POS in the province rose sharply to 3.8 million transactions with VND11.5 thousand billion in value; 279,550 collections with VND33,438 billion in tax, fine, fees, etc. were done; the number of water payments was 58,586 with VND36.45 billion, etc.
