Fruit Festival: A boost for Khanh Son farm products

Permanent Deputy Secretary of Khanh Hoa Province Party Committee, Chairman of the provincial People's Council Nguyen Tan Tuan said, “Khanh Son District should focus on developing high-quality farming in association with tourism development, and identify agriculture as a focus in the district's socio-economic development. The district need implement the planning, establish specialized production areas, apply scientific and technological advances to improve the productivity and quality of agricultural products; strengthen trade and expand markets’ and create favorable conditions for businesses to access and invest in agriculture and other fields to promote socio-economic development.

The highlight of the festival is the trading of local clean farm products. At the festival, the organizers arranged 20 booths for local fruits like durians, mangosteens, green-skin grapefruits, jackfruits, purple sugarcane, rambutans, avocados, etc.  In addition, there were a lot of fruit booths along main roads in To Hap town. According to the organization board, about 55 tons of farm products were sold out at the festival, including 35 tons of durians.
 
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, a visitor from Phan Rang City, Ninh Thuan Province said, “I have heard a lot about fruits of Khanh Son, so I come to the festival. Actually, the fruits here are very good. I have bought nearly 100 kilograms of durians, green-skin fruits and mangosteens to give my relatives and friends.”
 
Beside this, the festival also had other exciting activities such as running race, delicious fruit contest, folk games, singing and dancing, etc. There were also a workshop to build a clean and sustainable agriculture, contest of skillful village patriarchs, art fruit display, cuisine of Khanh Son, etc. These activities also attracted a lot of people.
 
Nguyen Van Nhuan - Chairman of Khanh Son District People's Committee said that this festival aims to create a boost in introducing local agricultural products. Besides promoting the strength of the local agriculture and helping farmers to sell products, the district also had a desire to introduce the image of Khanh Son D to investors, with a hope to attract more and more investors to develop clean agriculture and tourism.

Building special fruit tree area in Khanh Son
 
Thanks to the advantages of climate and soil, durian trees, grown for the first time in Khanh Son 20 years ago,  have produced high economic efficiency quickly. Then, many kind of fruits have been grown in the district. Up to now, Khanh Son District has become the a delicious fruit area and the largest in the South Central. The whole district now has 962ha of durians with annual yield of about 3,200 tons of durians, 319ha of green-skin grapefruits with annual yield of 220 tons, 166ha of rambutans with annual yield of 120 tons, 32ha of mangosteens with annual yield 200 tons, 66ha of mandarins with 10 tons in annual output,  300ha of purple sugarcane with 14,000 tons in annual yield. Especially, Khanh Son Durian has been voted as Gold Brand of Vietnam Agriculture. In addition, Khanh Son purple sugarcane has also been branded, and many other fruit trees here are grown according to VietGAP standards.
 
Nguyen Ngoc Hieu – Manager of Khanh Son District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that main orientation of the district is to build Khanh Son to become a fruit tree area associated with tourism development and new urban area building. From 2017 up to now, the local authority has guided farmers to convert ineffective crops to high-value fruit trees, which has given initial efficiency. After nearly 3 years of implementation, nearly 900ha of 1,451 households has been converted.
