Recently, Khanh Hoa Province Department of Industry and Trade has issued a plan to implement the movement "No plastic waste".

According to the plan, the Industry and Trade sector will increase propaganda and mobilize supermarkets, commercial centers, markets and industrial production facilities to limit the use of single-use plastic bags. At the same time, the sector will supervise the roadmap of implementing the limit of single-use plastic bags, and propose appropriate solutions to successfully implement the reduction of plastic waste. In addition, the sector will intensify propagation for its staff as well as , affiliated units and enterprises to carry out the movement “No plastic waste " in their workplaces and houses.

According to Mr. Tran Van Ngoan - Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, the movement "No plastic waste" aims to propagate, mobilize and call the community to change habits of using disposable plastic products and plastic bags, contributing to reducing environmental pollution, protecting human health and the ecosystem. In order to implement this plan, the provicial Department of Industry and Trade continues to formulate and propose mechanisms and policies to support the introduction and consumption of environmentally-friendly products, wrappers and bags. In the coming time, the department will coordinate with related agencies to promote infrastructure development as well as services of collecting and recycling disposable plastic waste. Enterprises joining actively

After the provicial Department of Industry and Trade issued a plan to fight plastic waste, most enterprises in the sector have actively participated. Producers and distributors units quickly have plans to reduce plastic waste from production to sale, increase production and consumption of environmentally friendly products. Nguyen Thanh Tuyen - Vice Chairman of Khatoco Trade Union said that the plan of combating plastic waste launched by the provincial Department of Industry and Trade sector has been actively responded. Currently, all units of Khatocos have implemented specific actions to reduce plastic waste.

Reportedly, from early September, some units have plans to replace plastic materials into environmentally friendly ones. Ideas using straws made of bamboo, rice flour and paper instead of plastic straws or using compressed towels instead of cold towels, paper cups instead of plastic cups have started to be applied.

Especially, some beverage manufacturers have started to use glass bottles instead of plastic bottles. For instance, Khanh Hoa Mineral Water Joint Stock Company has pioneered the launch of Vikoda mineral water with a 430ml glass bottle. Thereby, users can switch to mineral water glass bottles instead of disposable plastic bottles to protect the environment. At the same time, this company has also cooperated with some big hotels to sign a commitment to use drinking water by glass bottles in their accommodation establishments.

A number of supermarkets and commercial centers like Vinmart, BigC, Lotte and Co.opMart have also planned their own actions. They turned to use biodegradable roll bags and biodegradable plastic bags instead of disposable plastic bags. Some supermarkets use trays, boxes, plates and some items used in food processing made from bagasse, coconut fiber, etc. to replace a part of plastic-based items. Remarkbly, some supermarkets have wrapped vegetables and fruits with natural materials like banana leaves and paper bags instead of plastic bags. Some of them have stopped selling plastic straws, which are replaced by straws made from bamboo, grass, and rice flour.

In the coming time, the provincial Department of Industry and Trade will continue propagating businesses in production and distribution to raise consumers' awareness to join hands in combating plastic waste. The department also synchronously deployed businesses to fulfill their commitments in combating plastic waste and implementing production and business roadmaps of environmentally friendly products.
