Developing fisheries in Khanh Hoa

At the meeting, leaders of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development reported that the whole province now has 9,791 fishing boats, 814 of which have 15m or more in lenghth. The average fishing yield reaches 97,000 tons a year. The province's fishery labor force comprises about 83,000 people, including 33,000 in fishing, 28,300 in aquaculture and 21,600 in service and fishery processing.

There are 7 fishing ports in the province now including Hon Ro, Vinh Luong, Da Bac, Dai Lanh, Ninh Van, Binh Ba and Vung Ngan. The province also has one area for shelter from storms in Ninh Hai. According to the overall planning for fisheries development in Vietnam to 2020 and vision to 2030, Khanh Hoa is identified as one of the six major fishery centers of the country. In particular, Da Bac fishing port in Cam Ranh will be invested to build a large fishery center in Khanh Hoa in association with Truong Sa fishing ground, creating a breakthrough in the seafood development strategy, and creating a driving force to attract investment to strongly develop marine economy in the South Central region, associated with the protection of national sovereignty, security and defense on the sea and islands.
 
 
In the field of processing, the province has 44 enterprises participating in seafood export, which have been certified by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to meet standards. In addition, the province has many big enterprises such as: Hai Vuong Co., Ltd., F17 Export Processing Company, Hai Long Co., Ltd, Thinh Hung Co., Ltd, Tin Thinh Co., Ltd... The seafood products of Khanh Hoa have been exported to 64 markets around the world. The province’s seafood export turnover has increased steadily for many years, contributing more than 60% of the export value of the agriculture sector.

Talking about the goal of building fisheries in the coming time, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien said that the general trend will gradually reduce coastal exploitation, so it is necessary to manage the fleet more closely. For small ships, the province need consider the plan to change them to serve tourism. The Deputy Minister hoped that the province will soon build a further development of the fisheries industry to deserve to be a major fishery center of the region. In particular, it is necessary to have a strong scientific team in this field and the law enforcement in fishing must be done daily.
 
Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Le Huu Hoang received the opinions of the mission. He said that after the meeting, the province will assign the advisory section to build an effective plan to prevent illegal fishing; strengthen patrol, control and research on fishing vessel monitoring equipment. The province will try to pay attention to improving the quality of fishery products and strictly manage traceability records to contribute a part to the removal of yellow cards for Vietnamese seafood.
