Capacity of Ba Ngoi port to be raised

The leader of Cam Ranh Port Joint Stock Company said that the unit currently manages and operates two wharves.

Exceeding designed capacity

The leader of Cam Ranh Port Joint Stock Company said that the unit currently manages and operates two wharves. Specifically, the No. 1 wharf was built and put into operation in 1991 and upgraded and expanded in 2006. This wharf has a length of 182m, a width of 20m, accommodates general ships up to 30,000DWT outside and ships. aggregate up to 5,000DWT inside. Berth No.2 was built in 2012, has a length of 180m, width of 30m, receives general vessels up to 50,000DWT (including container ships of similar size) outboard and general ships up to 3,000DWT inside . Both wharves 1 and 2 use a common berth of 80m in length and 15m in width, which is unsuitable for mining activities, and at the same time causes congestion of goods transport from wharf to warehouse and opposite; There is a potential risk of stopping the port operation when an incident occurs on the bridge or when the bridge is undergoing repair and maintenance.

According to the reporter, the output of goods and fleets through Ba Ngoi port grew sharply. In 2019, the port received 305 turns of ships with the throughput of nearly 3 million tons, exceeding the designed capacity. It is expected that in 2020, the volume of goods through the port will exceed 3 million tons; by 2030 reach 7.1 to 7.5 million tons.

“In order to achieve the cargo throughput of the aforementioned port, businesses have had to overcome many difficulties and challenges, especially the lack of infrastructure: 2 wharves with 4 berths receiving ships of sizes from 3,000 to 50,000 DWT has only one bridge leading to traffic congestion when releasing goods, extending the time for ship release. Along with that, the downstream mooring pillar has not been built, so the arrangement and arrangement of mooring ships is difficult, especially when there are two large tonnage vessels anchored outside. While the vessel size of up to 7,000 DWT accounts for a relatively large proportion of the fleet arriving at the port, the inner berths can only receive ships of up to 5,000 DWT, so the port must arrange anchoring outside at 30,000 DWT or 50,000 DWT terminals. limiting the capacity of these stations to operate. Besides, some big customers of the port (enterprises making woodchips, sand, stone for export ...) adjust the size of the fishing ships to 70,000DWT to reduce transportation costs, "the business leader said.

Proposing to build more bridges and roads

In 2016, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) approved the Decision on cargo capacity through the port to reach 3.4-3.8 million tons / year by 2020, and 7-7.5 million tons by 2030. tons / year. With this decision, if the above mentioned difficulties and challenges cannot be overcome, it will affect the competitiveness and efficiency of production and business of the enterprise.

In order to create favorable conditions for the development of the port, Cam Ranh Port Joint Stock Company has submitted a written request to the Ministry of Transport and the Vietnam Maritime Administration to consider and approve the investment in raising the capacity to exploit the bridge. Ba Ngoi port. Specifically, the company will build a new bridge, path, an anchor at the downstream; dredging and finalizing the water park area and replacing some buffers and anchors so that the wharf No. 1 can receive ships up to 50,000 DWT to reduce the external load; jetty No.2 receives ships up to 70,000DWT offloading, passenger ships up to 70,000GRT outboard, 7,000DWT ships inside. Total estimated investment is about VND 58 billion, from the capital of the port and other lawful capital sources. The company also proposed the Ministry of Transport and Vietnam Maritime Administration pending the approval, allowing the company to exploit and test the capacity of receiving 58,000DWT tonnage vessel to reduce the load at wharf No. 2, as a basis for evaluation. , perfecting solutions for investment, improvement and upgrading of wharves.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dan - Director of Department of Transportation said that the unit has just received the provincial People's Committee's written opinion about the investment policy to improve the capacity of exploiting Ba Ngoi jetty. The provincial People's Committee assigns the chair to coordinate with other departments, agencies, localities and units concerned to study and advise the provincial People's Committee to consult with the Ministry of Transport on this. Currently, the department has sent documents to departments, branches and localities.
